Honneyys! My name is Barbara! I’m certified in Reformer Pilates and beginner – advanced Mat Pilates! I started my career working in the fashion industry living in Manhattan for about 8 years. Being only 20 years old and living in the madness of Manhattan, it was not long before I started to experience extreme anxiety for the first time in my life. I searched for ways to bring peace and calmness into my daily life. I began with meditation and really focusing on the breath, and how to direct it into my body. About two years ago, I became extremely sick and was diagnosed with an illness I’ll have to navigate for my time. With this, I lost all muscle and couldn’t maintain the lifestyle I was previously living. I began low impact exercises to slowly build up the muscle I lost, attending Pilates classes and bringing back how to really focus on the breath throughout movements. I became inspired by not only the changes I was seeing, but the changes I was feeling physically AND mentally. I didn’t just start to feel like myself again, but I started to feel like a better version of myself. I simply could not get enough - feeling so connected to my mind and body with the way I move, I knew I had found a practice that would change my life. Improving my strength physically aligns my body, enhancing the mindset of what my body can do, and lastly, bringing it all together connects the soul. I became more involved in the Pilates community, meeting instructors, practicing on the mat outside of studios (my favorite will always be the beach), and being introduced to different methods of Pilates. Seeing the way this practice changed my life, I wanted to show others what it can do for you and where it can bring you mentally and physically. I decided to begin my journey by getting certified and teaching others this practice. Pilates has changed my life; I believe in it. I believe in a flow that aligns and connects with your body and breath. I believe in good and high energy to encourage you to keep aligning when you begin to feel the muscles working. I believe in movement as medicine, because it has transformed me mentally and physically and continues to do so every day.
Best,
Barb
